Several community groups will this weekend mark the third annual Windrush national vigil to pay tribute to Windrush generation in Brixton.
The Windrush National Organisation, Justice for Windrush Generations, Black Cultural Archives, Friends of Windrush Square, Northampton Windrush Generation & Descendants and The Nubian Jak Trust are just a few of the organisations behind the Vigil.
The annual event will be conducted by Bishop Dr. Desmond Jaddoo MBE, Chair of the Windrush National Organisation. “This is an important time of reflection, and we must ensure that the sacrifices which the Windrush generation have made are never forgotten, whilst also remembering the families of those who have made the journey that they are not alone.
“It is important that we ensure that society finally commences the journey towards not just reconciliation, but also who we are as a people.”
Additionally this event commemorates the seventh anniversary since the Home office Windrush scandal came to light.
The scandal saw people from the Caribbean treated like ‘illegal immigrants’ by the Home Office despite arriving in Britain legally.
The vigil will feature a keynote address by Seema Malhotra MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Migration and Citizenship.
The Lord Mayor of Lambeth will officially open the event, setting the stage for an afternoon of remembrance, reflection, and support for the Windrush community.
There will be speeches from Campaigners, MP’s & the Clergy.
A special moment will be dedicated to giving thanks, remembering, honouring, and paying respects to the Windrush Generation.

There will also be space to ensure the victims who are no longer with us are not forgotten.
Following the vigil, the Home Office Windrush Outreach Team will hold a surgery at the
Black Cultural Archives, providing direct assistance to those affected by the Windrush scandal.
This important gathering aims to honour the contributions of the Windrush Generation and address ongoing challenges faced by many in the community.
The event is open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend.
