UK: Man Who Tweeted Vile Insults Against Black England Squad Cries At Sentencing

A former estate agent who targeted black England players, after the team were defeated in the Euro 2020 final, wept as he was handed a suspended jail sentence.

The hateful tweet was directed at England players Bukayo Saka, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford. Bone deleted the comment minutes after posting it, but it had been reposted and shared by others and reported to his employer, Savills. England lost in penalty shootout against Italy.

Bone was arrested three days after the final by the police who tracked him down using mobile phone mast analysis. Officers also found hateful comments he had previously made on social media.

In court, the 41-year-old initially denied the charge before changing his plea. He wept in the dock as he was given a six-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.
