A baby girl has made history as the first child in the UK to be born from a womb transplant.
Grace Davidson, 36, received a uterus from her older sister, Amy, in the UK’s first womb transplant in 2023.
Now, following the huge success of the procedure, she has given birth to baby Amy Isabel, named after her aunt and a surgeon who helped perfect the technique.
The news gives hope to thousands of women born without a womb or whose womb fails to function.
Davidson has a rare congenital disorder that affects the female reproductive system. It means she has an underdeveloped vagina and uterus. It’s known as MRKH and it occurs when a foetus is developing in about 1 in every 4,500 females at birth.
Baby Amy’s birth through planned NHS Caesarean section on February 27 at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital in London.
It marks the first time a baby has been born in the UK following a womb transplant – a milestone for medical science, and for the thousands of women who are born without a womb or lose it due to illness.
A Tennessee teacher charged with having sex with her then 12-year-old student told the boy she’s pregnant with his child and wants to keep the baby.
