SPAIN: Car Drives Into Crowd Outside Barca v Espanyol Game Injuring 13

Thirteen people were injured when a car was driven into fans outside the venue of the match between Espanyol and Barcelona on Thursday evening shortly before kick-off.

Clips posted to social media show missiles being hurled at a white hatchback which appears to have its rear window smashed. It then lurches forward and swerves into a wall of fleeing football fans as police officers with riot shields and other enraged fans run after it.

Police in Barcelona said that several people were hurt when the driver lost control and rammed into a crowd gathered outside the stadium.

The police for Catalonia called the incident an accident.

Salvador Illa, the regional president for Spain’s Catalonia region, said that all the injuries were “minor” and also ruled out any deliberate attack. Police said initially seven or eight people were injured when the vehicle ploughed into the crowd outside RCDE Stadium in southern Barcelona.

The police added in a message on X that the incident presented no danger to the people inside the stadium.
