Police in South Africa are investigating are investigating the shooting death of two robbers who had attempted to rob congregants at gunpoint during a Sunday service in Querencia Ministries church in Wierda Park, Centurion in Gauteng Province.
According to local media reports, a congregant identified as Pieter van der Westhuizen, a licensed gun carrier, managed to kill two of the men while the third escaped with possible injuries.
The pastor of the church Kobus Erasmus and a 15-year-old boy was also reportedly grazed by a bullet as the robbers shoved congregants around and pistol-whipped.
Police said “statement was obtained from the congregant who allegedly shot the suspects and this will be submitted for prosecutorial direction,” Mathapelo Peters, Gauteng police spokesperson, was quoted as saying.
