A nine-part series documentary featuring footages of interviews and clips compiled over 20 years, chronicling the global rise of Afrobeat music genre is set to be screened publicly in Lagos Nigeria this Easter.
Afrobeats: The Backstory is produced by Nigerian filmmaker Ayo Shonaiya and Boomplay.

Afrobeats: The Backstory is the latest offering of insight into the phenomenal rise of Nigeria’s brand of hip hop infused with traditional lingo and musical instruments with contemporary digital music inputs that has brought the genre to global prominence and acceptance.
The world premiere of the documentary is scheduled for Friday April 2, 2021 at Filmhouse Lekki Cinemas @6pm.
