As Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his fiancée, Lauren Sánchez, prepare for a lavish, star-studded wedding in Venice this weekend, not everyone in the city is happy about the impending nuptials.

As protesters take to the streets against the effect of tourism on their lives, Jeff Bazos wedding was in their sight as signs like “No space for Bezos,” is waved by residents who say the famed canal city is already overrun by tourists, billionaires or otherwise.

Angry locals say their home is being ‘held hostage’ by the ‘richest and most dangerous man in the world.’

The highly anticipated nuptials are set to take place the weekend of June 24 in the Floating City. The 61-year-old millionaire, is reportedly taking over the island of San Giorgio Maggiore for the wedding day itself, booking up luxury hotels and many water taxis in Venice.

Venice has long been a favourite wedding destination among celebrities, and this will not be different as A-list pals like Oprah, Eva Longoria, Ivanka Trump, Kardashians, and Sanchez’s Blue Origin crewmates Gayle King and Katy Perry are all expected at the wedding.

The city’s mayor, meanwhile, insists Venice is “extremely proud” to be the couple’s destination of choice. Bezos and Sanchez 55 began dating in 2018.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports have it that the celebration, for which the couple has seemingly rented 30 of the Floating City’s 280 water taxis, may cost up to $21.5 million.
