‘I was tricked into fatherhood – I told my ‘son’ the truth when he got in touch’

A 10-year-old boy is at the centre of a case of infidelity in marriage shared on social media by a man whose wife’s extra-marital affair with a teenager resulted in a pregnancy she then led him to believe the baby was his.

Eight years after the affair, the man found out that his then-two-year-old son wasn’t actually his son at all.

The man explained he was told about his wife’s affair by his son’s biological dad, who had “no idea” the woman was married when they slept together.

He wrote: “Eight years ago I found out my wife was cheating on me. We had a two-year-old son called Jake and I immediately got a paternity test, and it turned out he isn’t mine.

“The person who told me about the affair was Jake’s biological dad. He was 18 when he and my wife (who was 25 at the time) had the affair. He had no idea she was married, and when she was pregnant, he asked for an abortion.

“She told him she had the abortion and they broke up. Cut to two years later and he finds out through mutual friends that’s not the truth and tells me everything. He is not involved in Jake’s life at all.

“I divorced my wife and took myself out of the birth certificate through the help of a lawyer friend of mine.”

The man then revealed his own family were disappointed in him for cutting himself out of Jake’s life and tried multiple times to get him to “work things out” with his ex-wife.

After going so far as to move out of the country to avoid contact with his family, the man thought he had finally put his past behind him – until Jake, now 10, recently tried to contact him via email.

The man discovered his ex-wife and his family have been telling Jake that he is a “deadbeat dad”, despite him not actually being Jake’s biological father.

He added: “Fast forward to 2021 and Jake is now 10. Turns out this whole time my family has been telling him I’m a deadbeat dad and treating him as though they’re related by blood. I found out because Jake reached out to me via my business email.

“I told him the following: ‘I’m sorry but you have been lied to. Your mother cheated on me with an 18-year-old boy and tricked me into being your dad.

“I found out when you were two and divorced her. I am not your dad. I share no blood with you. I’m sure you’re a good kid and I’m sorry to have to tell you this. Please do not contact me further.’

“Jake reached out again asking for his bio dad information, but I refused. His biological dad has no interest in parenthood. I told him he should ask his mum about that.”

And although the man has no obligation to be in Jake’s life, he isn’t sure he did the right thing by telling the youngster the truth.

He wrote: “Now I’ve been getting emails left and right from my family members saying I was an a**hole for ‘abandoning my kid.’”
