Greta Thunberg has won the hearts of many twitter users when she flipped the script on US president Donald Trump, telling him to ‘chill’ and suggest he work on his anger management as he continued to demand the nation stop counting votes in the presidential election.
The 17-year-old climate change activist took to social media to mock Trump in a tweet that mimicked a tweet the President had directed at her last year in which he reacted to the announcement that the environmental campaigner had been named Person Of The Year by Time Magazine.
Last year, 73-year-old who took the US out of the Paris climate change accord took to Twitter to tell the then-16-year-old Thunberg that she needed to address her “anger management problem,” perhaps by going “to an old-fashioned movie with a friend.” He then urged the teenager to “Chill Greta, chill!”
Having observed the President’s behaviour during the ongoing elections, Greta Thunberg saw the opportunity to get one back at him.
Taking to Twitter to reply to the President’s calls to ‘stop the count, Greta wrote: “So ridiculous. Donald must work on his Anger Management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend! Chill Donald, Chill!”
The environmental activist’s witty clap back was widely praised on Twitter. “Trump even lost to Greta tonight,” wrote one person. “Incredible. Greta playing the long game,” added another.
Before long, the hashtag #GretaOutdidTrump began trending on the social media platform.
Trump has received widespread criticism for his reaction to how the election results are slowly panning out.
On Thursday the results were too close to call almost two days after polls closed. Meanwhile his rival Joe Bidenhas declared “each ballot must be counted” as he pushed back against Mr Trump’s bid to halt the US election results process.
The Democratic candidate said he feels “very good about where we stand” and that he has “no doubt” he will be declared the winner.
