Former German international footballer of Ghanaian descent, Gerald Asamoah last week flew 40 top surgeons and Nurses to Ghana for his annual free heart surgeries for children with hole-in-heart conditions.
The charity event championed by the Gerald Asamoah Foundation is held every year as part of the ex-footballer’s initiative of giving back to the country of his birth.
The doctors will spend a few days in Ghana to perform the procedure on the selected children before returning to Germany.
The team of surgeons seen on arrival at the Kotoko International Airport, expressed their excitement about the opportunity to contribute to the well-being of Ghanaian children.
Asamoah chose to represent the German national team during his football career and played for renowned clubs such as Schalke and FC St. Pauli.
Now, he is leveraging his influence and resources to make a positive impact on the healthcare sector in Ghana, demonstrating a commitment to philanthropy and community welfare.
Asamoah, who accepted the FIFA Fair Play award on behalf of all football organisations supporting refugees during the FIFA Ballon d’Or Gala 2015 at the Kongresshaus in Zurich.
His career spent most of his time in Germany playing for Hanover, Greuther Furth and Schalke O4.
