British actor Idris Elba has called for investment to help the world’s poor at the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos opening ceremony.
Accompanied by his wife Sabrina both goodwill ambassadors for the UN’s International Fund for Agricultural Development, they urge the world’s corporate and political elite to do more to help small farmers in Africa.
“The poor of this world are not just looking for aid and handouts, they’re looking for investment,” Idris Elba said.
“We understand the power and change that can come from this room … We can move with agility and speed and your speed is needed now,” the Elbas added.
“We have specific goals and specific targeting and messaging to do while we’re here,” he said.
“It has been a very different experience from the first time.”
