Still fighting extradition to the United States, where he is wanted for an alleged conspiracy to obtain and disclose national defence information, Wikileaks founder, Julian Assange has married his fiancée at Belmarsh high-security prison in south-east London.

Assange was granted permission last year to marry Stella Moris – with whom he has two children, in front of four guests and two witnesses at the prison where he has been held since 2019 after the US took legal action to extradite him to face trial on espionage charges.

After the wedding, Moris fought back tears as she addressed a crowd outside prison. and wearing her wedding dress, she said: “I’m very happy but I’m very sad … I wish he were here … What we’re going through is inhuman.”

She described the event as “bittersweet” adding: “This wedding should be in Westminster with thousands of people there, and they should be able to live together as husband and wife.”
