Amazon has apologized and opened an investigation following reports that customers who had pre-ordered the new PlayStation 5 received deliveries of cat food and a foot massager instead.
Last week, reports abound on social media where users have expressed disappointment at receiving unsolicited deliveries, including cat food, a grill, and packing tape, instead of the much-awaited games console they ordered.
Amazon confirmed the reports were genuine thorough their spokesperson: “We’re really sorry about that and are investigating exactly what’s happened, we’re reaching out to every customer who’s had a problem and made us aware so we can put it right. Anyone who has had an issue with any order can contact our customer services team for help.”
“We’re all about making our customers happy, and that hasn’t happened for a small proportion of these orders.” the spokesperson added.
The demand for the PS5 appears to outstrip supply across the UK, with all retailers reporting limited stock.
Gamers hoping to buy a PS5 from retailers on release day were met by long queues and crashing websites as retailers struggled to cope with demand.
Meanwhile, Sony said it expects to be able to meet demands by the end of the year.
New games consoles are proving popular in the UK as people seek to beat the lockdown blues, with the latest Xbox machines thought to have contributed to record demand for broadband data on its launch day.
