Wesley Snipes, Rick Ross Join ‘Coming 2 America’ Sequel Cast

By Published August 09, 2019

Since January 2019 when Eddie Murphy made public the proposed making of a sequel to the 1988 classic move ‘Coming to America’, things really seem to be moving for ‘Coming 2 America’ due for release in 2020.

The latest report is the announcement that Wesley Snipes and possibly Rick Ross will be joining the growing cast alongside Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall and a host of old casts.

There are insinuations that Snipes may have come into Murphy’s raider after the two are co-starring in Dolemite is my Name, a biopic of Rudy Ray Moore coming out this year. The movie was directed by Craig Brewer, who will also be directing Coming 2 America.

Murphy will reprise his role as Akeem (Prince of Zamunda) for the sequel, Arsenio Hall played his assistant Semmi, and he’ll be in the sequel as well.

In the new story, Murphy is set to be king of Zamunda but then finds out he has a son in Queens named Lavelle.

So he and Semmi sets out to meet the street-savvy youngster to make him a prince, as Akeem’s dying father wishes, played by James Earl Jones.

Jones played Murphy’s father King Jaffe Joffer in the first film and will also be in the follow-up. Snipes, meanwhile, will play the “Coming 2 America” character of General Izzi, who rules one of Zamunda’s border nations.

It’s also been reported that Paul Bates, who played Oha in the original film, has signed on for part two, and, perhaps surprisingly, the rapper Rick Ross will be in it too.

Murphy is also said to have invited Ruth E. Carter, the veteran costume designer who got an Oscar for “Black Panther.”

Snipes shared post about his casting seem to have been welcomed going by the comments it generated.
