EGYPT: Africa’s First Confirmed Case Of COVID -19

Africa today recorded its first confirmed case of coronavirus after a person in Egypt tested positive for the disease.

The person, whose nationality has not been specified, is not an Egyptian and is now in isolation in hospital according to the country’s health ministry.

"The ministry has taken preventative measures and is monitoring the patient ... who is stable," said health ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed.

Egyptian authorities have notified the World Health Organization who last week officially named the virus COVID-19.

The outbreak of the virus began in Wuhan, China in December 2019 with official death toll of 1,383 till date, most exclusively in China where it was first identified.

Officials have declared it a global health emergency.
