Convict Struck Judge In Court After Sentencing

By Published December 12, 2019

A 36-year-old man threw a metal water jug at a sitting Judge after she handed him an additional life sentence in a Baltimore court.

Chief Circuit Judge Wanda Heard was struck in the forehead when Travis Burroughs, who has already been incarcerated for decades on rape and additional charges threw the jug at the Judge and was charged for the incident with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and using a dangerous weapon with the intent to injure.

Baltimore Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, Tapp-Harper confirmed that the judge had just imposed a life sentence on Burroughs for sodomy and false imprisonment.

“We are the enforcement arm of the court, and we will not allow anyone to assault or intimidate any of the judiciary officers here,” Tapp-Harper said, adding that her office took the incident “tremendously seriously.”

Judge Heard left the hearing room immediately after she was attacked to seek medical attention.
