ZIMBABWE: Vice President Forced To Go Public About Skin Condition

By Published May 10, 2018

Zimbabwe's vice president Constantino Chiwenga has finally addressed claims that he uses skin lightening creams, saying his new complexion is not ‘bleaching’ but a rare skin condition.

Speaking at the burial of his sister, Margaret Machekabuwe in Marondera, the former defence forces chief dismissed claims that his lighter complexion and the pale patches visible on his hands are a result of him using skin-lightening cream.

"It was during (the military operation) that I fell ill. I had this skin disease that affected my whole body from beneath my feet to my back and the journalists started saying I was using skin lightening cream but that was not the case. I was sick," he said

Chiwenga reckon he has now been cured with herbs supplied by a Roman Catholic nun after an inconclusive test results conducted in South Africa could not determine the cause of the sickness and couldn’t come up with a treatment.

The Zimbabwean VP who is married to a model has been the butt of social media jokes with aliases like "Bleachy Chiwenga" and "General Ambi" – after the famous make of skin cream.
