ZIMBABWE: Grace Mugabe In Fresh Assault Charge

By Published May 14, 2019

Former Zimbabwe first lady, Grace Mugabe has found herself in another assaulted allegation, this time it’s from her domestic worker.

Shupikai Chiroodza, a former housekeeper at the Mugabes Blue Roof mansion filled a court application alleging she was hit with fists and a shoe accusing her of ‘milking’ 95-year-old ex-president after she accepted a cash gift from him as a wedding present. This she also alleged led to unfair dismissal.

Chiroodza is seeking to be reinstated to her old job and enjoy full benefits that would have accrued to her from the time she was “unlawfully” dismissed in May 2017.

Chiroodza worked for the Mugabes as a state house employee from April 2008 having been employed by the Civil Service Commission. She was later deployed to the Mugabes’ Blue Roof mansion and promoted to the position of Comptroller 111 on June 21 2015.

The Civil Service Commission and Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare minister Sekai Nzenza are cited as the first and second respondents respectively amid reports that the commission is negotiating an out-of-court settlement.

Grace is already mired in another legal woe on a separate alleged assault of Gabriella Engels, a Johannesburg model, with a power extension cord in 2017. The South Africa National Prosecuting Authority is seeking her extradition.
