ZAMBIA: Chinese Immigrant Detained For Unlawful Paramilitary Training Camp

By Published October 01, 2018

Police in Zambia’s Southern Province have arrested nine men, among them, one Chinese immigrant for unlawful military training under the guise of a security company.

The suspects were found in full military fatigues and police recovered one pistol, seven shot guns and one big airgun with a box containing shotgun ammunition said to belong to the security company.

Southern Province Police Commissioner Bonny Kapeso has confirmed the arrest and detention of a Zambian director of Alert Safety Security in Livingstone.

Kapeso said the company has been conducting trainings without clearance from police and that the uniform they wore was similar to the one used by the Department of National Parks and Wildlife.

He said the suspects who had set up a training camp 10km North of Livingstone’s weighbridge and 2 km off the Great North Road, are currently in police custody pending investigations.
