UK: Convicted Nigerian Nurse Was Aspiring Law Maker

By Published July 05, 2018

It has emerged that the Nigerian London-based nurse who was last week convicted of trafficking five Nigerian women into Germany for prostitution was a senatorial aspirant for the 2019 elections in her native Edo State.

Josephine Iyamu, 51, made the women swear on oaths to hand over money to her during "juju" ceremonies where the women were forced to eat chicken hearts, drink blood containing worms, and have powder rubbed into cuts on their bodies.

Iyamu, who is the first person to be convicted under the newly promulgated Modern Slavery Act law is also an aspirant to Edo state house of assembly under the ruling All progressive Congress (APC) party.

Iyamu a.k.a Madam Sandra is a top Edo APC member from ward 3 in Egor LG, Edo State, a close friend of the Governor Obaseki, Comrade Oshiomhole( APC National Chairman) & Hon Paul Ohonbamu . She had donated and funded campaigns for top APC Edo members.

Her campaign poser pledged to empower women if voted to the state assembly; one wonders in what ways such empowerment would have come, trafficking?

Iyami faces 14 years in prison while her husband, 60-year-old Efe Ali-Imaghodor was acquitted of acts intending to pervert the course of justice.
