KENYA: Nurse Uses ‘Essential Service’ Permit To Visit Boyfriend

By Published May 19, 2020

A female nurse who used her essential services permit to travel from Nairobi to Nakuru County under the guise of offering essential services has been arrested alongside her boyfriend and forced into a 14-day quarantine.

Neighbours who saw the nurse in the community with her lover alerted the county health surveillance team who paid the couple a visit and arrested them after their temperature was taken and was said to be higher than normal, arrested the lovebirds and placed them in quarantine.

The government has restricted travel in and out of Nairobi except for cargo trucks to curb the spread of coronavirus. Health workers are among essential service providers allowed to travel out of the capital and to operate past curfew hours.

The nurse reportedly identified herself to police manning roadblocks and told them she was going to offer essential services.
