GHANA: Deceased MP ‘s Wife And Mistress Jostle To Take His Parliamentary Seat

The quest to replace a deceased Ghanaian lawmaker took a messy turn when his two wives decided they are the rightful replacement.

Emmanuel Agyarko, the MP who represented Ayawaso West Wuogon in the Greater Accra region, died in November and before the Electoral Commission announce a date for the by election ruling party has another problem on their hands-who of the two jostling widows to back for the election.

Lydia Alhassan, an alleged mistress of the wives of the late MP has stepped forward to take the challenge to replace Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko in Parliament.

Supporters of his wife, Josephine Agyarko, said they were presenting a petition for her to be made the New Patriotic Party, candidate.

Meanwhile, a group calling itself concerned delegates of Ayawaso West Wuogon have petitioned the leadership of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to allow only the first and legitimate wife of the late MP, Naana Agyarko to contest the upcoming by-elections on the ticket of the party.

Another group backing Lydia Alhassan have also petitioned for her to be picked as the candidate.
