ETHIOPIA: Car Crash On Display For Road Safety Awareness

A traffic accident survivor put up an exhibition of mangled vehicles in the main square of Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa to shock people and create awareness of road accidents to improve road safety.

Samrawit Yirgalem said I need people to learn from this, "the Ethiopian new year is coming next month. So people should make a resolution to have an accident-free year."

The World Health Organization says road traffic accidents are a major global public health problem, and low and middle-income countries, including Ethiopia, bear the brunt.

Ethiopia's transport ministry says that 4,500 people are killed on the country's roads every year and more than 12,000 are injured because of traffic accidents.

Yirgalem said the wrecked vehicles was provided by local insurance companies.
